Watching this movie as a kid I realised it didnt differ much from reality growing up. Shit its hard to think of an Aunty who aint been thru a Domestic Violent relationship including my Mother.
I’d see grown men (Father/Uncles) consume alcohol getting absolutely wasted to the point they would break down in tears. Couldnt make sense of it until you get abit older understanding they were hurting. Trapped and unable to express themselves most of the time resulting in violence.
Unfortunately this aint news though, but i had to share my thoughts because truth is, these days for far too long im seeing the same shit at these “drink up” tables. I’ve sat across too many of my brothers using alcohol to escape, seeing the rare emotional side to them as the alcohol drops their barriers as they begin to express their pain. And too many situations of violent relationships still going on…
We aint been thru all this to repeat the same shit. We gotta do better, bring some balance to the alcohol and understand change comes from the inside my brothers.
